BUMPER YEAR JULY 9 2013
Seawork 2013 attracted record numbers of commercial marine professionals with over 7,300 visitors this year, a 6% increase on 2012.
Visitors to the exhibition held at the ABP Port of Southampton from June 25 to 27 were drawn in by the lure of new products, new vessels on the pontoons, demonstrations on-the-water and the conference papers from organisations including the Ministry of Defence, the Maritime & Coastguard Agency and the Navitus Bay Wind Park development.
Highlights of Seawork 2013 included: the sale of three vessels by Netherlands based Damen Shipyards Gorinchem, including a 27m Shoalbuster off the pontoons; the sale of a multi-role, road transportable workboat by Meercat Workboats of the UK to a Tasmanian fish farm and the announcement by the UK's Ocean Safety of Southampton of the agreement to replace all the liferafts used by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
The dates for
Seawork 2014 have been confirmed as Tuesday 10 to Thursday 12 June.
INNOVATION AWARDS JUNE 26 2013
The Seawork Innovation Awards were presented last night by BBC TV’s Sally Taylor at the new-format networking event, sponsored by ZF Marine, at The Grand Café. The prestigious Spirit of Innovation Trophy was presented to Filtertechnik for its Particle Pal, a self-contained, battery operated field kit that passes oil or fuel through a laser particle counter. The Seawork Innovation Awards, were sponsored by Class Instrumentation.
Guy Cotten UK won the Marine Equipment category in the Innovations Showcase for its new Drempro Jacket and Drembib Trousers made from bonding high-tech, multi-layered fabric to hard-wearing PVC-coated material – a revolutionary manufacturing process.
The award in the Safety category went to NRG Marine for its PFE range of fire extinguishers, the world’s first non-pressurised, multi-purpose extinguisher. USA exhibitor, Maretron, was awarded a Special Commendation for its Vessel Data Recorder.
The Seawork Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Norman Finley, lifetime president of the National Workboat Association, who was instrumental in setting up the association and played a key role in developing the Maritime & Coastguard Agency’s Workboat Code of Practice and the Brown Code, launched at Seawork.

2013 sees a stronger than ever Ministry of Defence presence at Seawork. Not only is the revamped MoD Boats Team holding its annual Industry forum, but they will be joined by specialist colleagues in boat engineering and safety.
